Thanksgiving is one of my favourite holidays. I love that you get to relax all weekend and spend time with the ones that you love. It is common for me this weekend to consume copious amounts of wine and eat my weight in turkey, gravy and stuffing. But Thanksgiving is also the beginning of the “holiday season” with Halloween just around the corner and then the festive season of Christmas not too far afterwards. If you allow your eating to get out of control now you are doomed.
An average turkey dinner with stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, wine and pumpkin pie can exceed 1200 calories! (and that is not including the second helping or leftovers). It will take a 12 mile run to burn that off or 2 hours of intense spinning so make sure that your 30 minute turkey dinner is well worth it.
Here are a few tips on how to manage and prevent the post turkey bulge.
Drink water with your dinner
Opt for a brown rice stuffing over a bread stuffing
Fill up your plate with more vegetables and less of the creamy mashed potatoes and casseroles
Stick with eating the breast of the turkey
You can’t have it all so choose 1 of the 3 during dinner;bread, dessert or wine
And do not starve yourself
